My Eczema Story

Updated: Feb 26, 2024

ree

I lived with chronic eczema on my hands for almost half of my life which is far too long. Eczema is very frustrating to live with because no one could answer my question of "What is the cause for my eczema?". Instead, I was given a list of potential causes which ranged from the environment, detergents/soaps, food allergies, etc.

Side note: For me, eczema was a vicious cycle, my hands would itch, then I'd scratch the itch, this exasperated the itch and if I scratched enough, it would develop little cuts which would cause me to worry about getting an infection. This caused me to be reluctant to shake hands with people and felt debilitating when it came to making meals for myself and family.

I was advised to see an allergist and underwent allergy testing which resulted in a slight reaction to the wheat test. I eventually altered my diet and avoided wheat and wheat by-products (i.e. soy sauce, etc.). (I was surprised to learn there is wheat in soy sauce.)

I was prescribed a topical steroid which after years of using only realized this was just a bandage or temporary fix as the eczema would return the next day or week or month. Talk about frustrating!

Well, I can finally say that after some self-care practices, the eczema on my hands has finally healed! Now, I want to help others suffering from eczema and help them on their healing journey.

If you or if you know someone living with eczema, please reach out to me to share your eczema story and start your healing journey.
